New Spring Purchases

With the annual girls beach trip looming in the near future, I knew I needed to pick up a few spring/summer essentials. I really haven´t felt much like shopping for spring as it´s been pretty cold and rainy here in Madrid but I finally decided it was time and hit up the giant Lefties on Gran Via.

Goal in mind:  swimsuit, some shirts, possibly some sandals, anything cute and beachy

Budget: 80 euros.

I am happy to report back that not only did I stay within budget, I got EVERYTHING I wanted and more.   The most important thing I wanted was the swimsuit.  I like spending less money on swimsuits and having more of them.  I know the quality isn´t great, but i actually really like buying new ones every summer.  It´s a fun change up.  Plus I am a beach lover, for example this August I will be at the beach alllll summer and I want to have lots of options.

My swimsuit ( 16 euros)

Yay! My new swimsuit

Then I got a cute pair of chunky black wedges.  They looked great with cuffed jeans when I tried them on in the store, and I have no doubt they will also look fab with a dress or shorts.

Afterwards I got a couple solid linen/cotton blend tanks. I adore linen and I think it´s a comfortable, light summer fabric.  Each summer I like to buy a few new solid color tanks, especially white  ones, as they fade and tend to be overworn.  Plus these can be worn with anything as they are super basic, and be tucked in or out.

Tanks (6 euros each)

I also got this white tank with a cool Indian print.  It will look fab with some denim shorts.

Finally my fun purchase of the day.   I have been wanting a light, comfortable pair of patterned pants for awhile now and I finally found the perfect pair.  They are extremely versatile and can be worn with heels, flats, tanks, tees, etc.  I also think they will be very comfortable for plane travel, which I do excessively in the summer.

Patterned Pants (18 euros)

Total price: approx 80 euros, within budget!

Hope you guys like my low cost spring/summer finds and I hope they inspire you to get shopping and buy yourself some  new spring updates!

Beach Fashion: Palazzo!

To me there is nothing more fabulous than the palazzo pant trend.  Any homage paid to the 1960´s is a wonderful thing!

Some of the trendiest celebs, like Olivia Palermo, Blake Lively, and AnnaLynn McCord have already been spotted in palazzos.

I bought this amazing pair of leopard palazzo pants on sale for just 5 euros, yes you read this correctly FIVE EUROS! I have been dying to debut them, but every weekend or event I´ve had for months, it´s been freezing or raining.  So what better time to show them off than my beach weekend.  Sidenote: riding a bike in these plus platforms…I should win some kind of award for that.

Please also note Heather´s green palazzo look, except hers is actually a skirt!

How to Dress for a ´Fake Spring´

I don´t know about all of you but I am ready and waiting for spring to arrive.  The past week here in Madrid it´s been raining and cold and I am so sick of my winter wardrobe! So I was thinking…how can I brighten up my wardrobe for spring but still keep warm as it´s not ´spring´weather yet?

My solution to this is: colorful jeans or pants.  You will not only be perfectly in style, but the bright color will set off your spring fever even though the weather has not caught up yet!

My suggestion for colorful pants is heading over to Zara.  I was just there and they have an array of colored jeans, including but not limited to: hot pink, pale pink, light orange, mint, red, and yellow.

During the weekend I tested my colorful pants theory with my BF on a dinner date.  It´s true-even though it poured down rain, I felt spring-ish and happy while still being warm as the wind whipped around me wearing my bright red pants.

Where to Buy: Top from Next in England, Red Pants from Zara, Shoes are Christian Louboutins from Saks in NYC, Ring from Parfois

Maximize your Denim

Who doesn´t want their favorite pair of jeans to last forever? I sure do! So here are some tips to keep your denim fresh and fabulous!  As seen originally in the June issue of Lucky mag.

Tip Number 1:  If you want to deoderize your denim without washing it (thus maintaining color and creases) still them in a ziplock baggie and put in the freezer for a week.  That will do the trick

Tip Number 2:  For maintaining color, wash denin inside out in cold water with a capful of white vinegar.  Then add one-two tablespoons of salt into the rinse cycle.

Tip Number 3: Wash white denim in mild regular detergent, not in chlorine bleach, which can lead to yellowing.

With this tips, hopefully your denim will live long and prosper!

Around Town: Madrid Nightlife Style

One of the greatest things about living in Madrid is just simply seeing how people dress for work, for casual, and of course, for a night out of fun.  See what I found on a typical night out at Serrano 41, a club in Madrid.

When I asked to take a pic of these two girls, they politely asked me if I could speak English!  Hurrah!  I asked them where they where from and I THINK they said Poland…it was loud in there!  Regardless of nationality, I love their style, brights make summer fun.

Speaking of brights…bright, standout shoes were an absolute staple:

If it wasn´t brights…hardware and fringe made for standout shoes!

This girl looked super cute, loved the touch the bright, turqoise purse adds.

More to come on Madrid Street Fashion!

Fur and Leather

So some of my favorites this fall-winter are fur and leather, so I created a little imagery to show them all. It´s not my fault that everything is black and brown…I guess it´s the NYC in me! I threw in some forest green for color.  I know most of this stuff is designer, but take the ideas over to Zara, Forever 21 etc and see what you can find…make it work!

Trend Alert: Edgy Glamour

One of the things I think about when I put together an outfit is juxtaposition.  I love the idea of mixing fabrics and textures and styles that might not really ´go´together, but work.  For example below, I have pulled together a grouping of items that I find to be old school glamour but with an urban edge as well.  The best way to do this is look for items that seem to have a classic glamorous look, like a little black dresss, diamonds, pearls, gold and then add some leopard, some leather, some studds, some ribbon, maybe some sequins or feathers. My absolute favorite is the classy black clutch…with the skull snap on top.  (glamour-classic black clutch, edgy-skull, in case you are still in fashion 101 and need extra help) I also love the two classy black dresses, the one shoulder on one and the leopard cutouts on the other really edge it out! Check out the group I pulled together below.  This type of glamour with an urban edge is really trending right now so get to shopping!
