Zara Fall Caprichos

¨Capricho¨ is a word in spanish that means ¨a special treat¨….for example a small piece of chocolate if you are on a diet…or in my case…a shopping trip when I am on a budget.  My bff BK took me to Zara to find something worthy enough to wear in order to celebrate my newly aquired visa in Spain, which gives me legality for 5 years.   I wasn´t expecting anything so it was a very exciting ¨capricho¨.  The purchases were a leather jacket with fur and a jeweled ¨onesie¨, both of which I adore.  A big thanks to BK  for my caprichos!  I love them

Island Fashion

I am back in Madrid after a 10 day holiday in the Greek Islands, and all I can say is WOW.  I have never seen such breaktaking natural beauty! I loved every second of Greece, the sights, the food, the locals were funny, quirky and friendly…it´s been a vacation I´ll never forget, that´s for sure.  Now to add to the local breathtaking beauty, I´ve added a few fabulous outfits I floated around in during my vacay.  Today marks the end of August and once September starts…fall fashion it is!  So enjoy these last few beach pic and then let´s dive  right into to fall fashion!

Summer Trend: Crochet or Lace Shorts

A new summer trend I am loving is the crochet or lace shorts look.  I bought a pair of black ones at H&M, which I found an image of online (from blog Ivanna´s Closet).  I totally agree with Ivanna-crochet shorts might possibly be my favorite summer garment this year!

Howeer, the H&M ones do run a bit short, so if you want something a bit longer, you could try Zara, which has a couple pairs of slighty longer ones.

My only tip when wearing crochet or lace shorts is to be careful with what you pair them with…SOMETIMES, depending on the garment, the white ones especially, tend to look a bit like pajamas.  So make sure to pair them with something tailored and shoes other than flip flops so it doens´t look as if you´ve just rolled out of bed!

How to Dress for a ´Fake Spring´

I don´t know about all of you but I am ready and waiting for spring to arrive.  The past week here in Madrid it´s been raining and cold and I am so sick of my winter wardrobe! So I was thinking…how can I brighten up my wardrobe for spring but still keep warm as it´s not ´spring´weather yet?

My solution to this is: colorful jeans or pants.  You will not only be perfectly in style, but the bright color will set off your spring fever even though the weather has not caught up yet!

My suggestion for colorful pants is heading over to Zara.  I was just there and they have an array of colored jeans, including but not limited to: hot pink, pale pink, light orange, mint, red, and yellow.

During the weekend I tested my colorful pants theory with my BF on a dinner date.  It´s true-even though it poured down rain, I felt spring-ish and happy while still being warm as the wind whipped around me wearing my bright red pants.

Where to Buy: Top from Next in England, Red Pants from Zara, Shoes are Christian Louboutins from Saks in NYC, Ring from Parfois

Spring Shopping: Floral Dress

My absolute favorite purchase for this spring was this floral dress from Zara.  I never thought, being short, that I could pull off a long-in-the-back, short-in-the-front dress…but somehow it looks great! I absolutely can´t wait for the weather to become sunny and warm so I can wear it.  The best part is I even think I could wear it with flats too. It´s quite versatile, worn with a black blazer and black heels for a night out, a brunch date, espadrills and a denim vest, and of course shopping with friends in the sunshine, black flats and sunglasses!

Dress: Zara, 30 euros

Here is the front view of the dress. I really like how it´s covered up in the neckline, it makes the whole short front long back thing seem more trendy and modern and less, ´sexy slit´.

If you look closely you can see a small opening in the back, which I will show a closeup of below.

Spring Jackets…Top Picks

With the beginning of March and temps looking up, I am dreaming about losing my winter coat and putting on some spring jackets.  Here are my top faves for this season:

I love how this Elizabeth and James Harlow jacket looks like a snazzy blazer slash it´s got a sporty look too.  A bit pricey at 355 USD, but such a fun color and style for this spring.

I love the grunge look of a leather jacket with just the right zipper.  It´s very ¨Girl with the Dragon Tattoo¨.  This one from Mango is utterly cool, and won´t break your bank at about 60 euros.

I´ve given you sporty and grunge, if you want a preppier look, you can´t go wrong with nautical stripes, which are an excellent choice for spring.  Go with this jacket from Cortefiel for 70 euros.

Finally if want your typical blazer, but with an added edge, try this green one with gathered sleeves from Zara for 60 euros.  Extra bonus-this color could even carry into fall, therefore saving you from buying a fall jacket if you are on a budget.

My New and Fabulous Winter Coat

So if you recall in previous post on my ´Dream Winter Coat´, my father sent me a coat from the USA and it ended up in New Guinea so I was forced to buy a new one this season here in Spain.  Of course my dream Burburry coat was out of the question financially so I hit up Zara, (many thanks to my wonderful friends that gave me a gift card there for my birthday!) in search of something fantastic that was more in my price range.

Finally, I found a grey peacoat that seemed perfect.  I´m no model, but I wanted to show the versatility of the coat by taking pics of the ways you can use the fabric on top.  See below. Available at Zara in grey, black, and beige for under 100 euros.

Option A

It´s not super cold and I am in a hurry so here, I will leave the top slightly unzipped…

Option B (2 pics)

It´s getting a little chilly out and my neck is cold so lets bundle up a bit…

Option C

The wind is blowing in my face and I am freeeeeeeezing so here let´s pull it up even more…

Option D

It´s starting to rain and I forgot my umbrella…

Option E (Last and Final Option…in fact let´s call it ´Last Resort´option)

It´s f%$&ing freezing and raining and I am so pale and sick of winter….!!!!

In conclusion, it´s not my Burburry Prorsum dreamcoat, but it´s got it´s own charm! :)   And for just 2,900 euros cheaper!

Things I LOVE: Chapter 8

REBAJAS! Yes, it´s that time of year when everything goes on sale in Spain.  Last week I purchased this shirt at Zara for just 12.99 euros, which is a steal considering it´s silk.  It also came in red and green, but I picked blue. It´s great because it can be dressed up or down, I can wear it with skinny jeans, tuck it into a high waisted skirt, or wear it with shorts or leggings.  LOVE!

Escaparate of the Week: Zara

I adore Zara´s current window display.  It really gives off a great interpretation of summer, which is wonderful.  Most of the other shops are filled with brights and stripes and summer colors, which is definitely summer but I really enjoyed what Zara did with their window display, it´s different and elegant but still reads summer!  Zara shows us we can still wear black, even in summer! (Whew).
