Spanish Fashion Designers Go International

When I created this blog about a year and a half ago, one of my reasons for starting it was to show that Madrid is a fashionable city with talented designers and a unique and fabulous street style.

David Delfin walks the NYC Runway

Helping my cause of course, are a few select Spanish designers who are branching out by having fashion shows in other cities not located in Spain.

In 2012, David Delfin and Elisa Palomino walked the NYC runwyas, and Custo Barcelona in 2011-2012.  Others who have showed in NYC are Amaya Arzuaga, Ailanto, Kina Fernandez, Lidia Delgado,  and Angel Sclesser.

Sita Murt, Custo Barcelona and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada have all visited Moscow´s Fashion Week.  Next September 2012, 36 Spanish designers will walk the Russian runway in Moscow.

Devota and Lomba, Roberto Verino, Victor y Lucchino, and Jesus del Pozo were all part of an exhibit called ¨20 Trajes Para Rusia: Diseñadores Dialogan con la Literatura¨(20 Oufits for Russia: Designs Work with Literature) that travelled through Tokyo, Istanbul, Milan, Brussels and Budapest.

See? Spanish Fashion isn´t just for Spain!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid: Jesus Del Pozo

This show was the second show without the late designer, Jesus del Pozo, and the first runway that did not include any of his designs.  Even though he wasn´t not alive for the runway show last September (which I was able to attend) he left all of his designs prepared.  So, what´s a Jesus del Pozo show without Jesus del Pozo?  Let´s see…

In general I think that whoever is designing for Jesus del Pozo really stayed with the aesthetic that Jesus created for his collections.  The looks were sleek, and long, form fitting, with interesting colors, delicate and nomadic.  If I hadn´t known…I would have thought Jesus del Pozo had designed these himself!

I absolutely adore this.  It´s like a form fitting cape…sweater…floor length coat…hell I don´t know what it is but I LOVE it.  It´s totally original, I have never seen anything like it!  Fit for a queen…a nomadic, arabic style queen!

This dress is stunning. Simple yet completely original and different. I would happily wear this dress to any fabulous occasion.

This look is really different and I think the color is eye catching.  It´s maybe not something I would wear, but I find it really cool.

Gorgeous !LOVE the neckline and shoulder detailing.  It´s also paired with loafer style shoes which is an interesting look.

All of the models….all in all a very sleek collection, I enjoyed it.

Cibeles Fashion Week: Jesus del Pozo Fashion Show

I felt honored to attend this fashion show, as this will be the last runway where late fashion designer Jesus del Pozo actually participated in the design of his collection, as he recently passed away just about a month ago.

The show begin with a small tribute to Pozo (see above), with a woman in black standing and some music playing.  I felt in general, vibe of the show was a bit sad, as to be expected.  Each model wore a kerchief over her head, and it felt very Spain, 1950´s style.  The designs, in general, were a bit plainer and not as WOW as some of the other designers, but were beautifully constructed with luxurious fabrics.  The ´less is more´look seemed to surface in this show, with very few patterns and mostly solid color, flowing dresses.  See below, for Jesus del Pozo´s last creations.

One of my favorites, I love this color.

Another one of my faves, marking the two trends I noticed this year: gold and black and long and flowing.

RIP Jesus del Pozo, you will be missed.

RIP Jesus del Pozo

Jesus del Pozo, one of Spain´s  most influential fashion designers, has passed away due to lung failure at age 65.  He opened his first store in 1974, and unveiled his very first designer collection in 1976 in Paris.

Pozo is what I like to call a ´Madrid fashion founder´because he started and sustained his designs before the fall of Franco and all the way through the country´s turbulent change to democracy until now.  I imagine that must of been a difficult stage to be owning and running a business, designing, etc, so I think he must have worked very, very hard.   So RIP Jesus, you will be missed.

Cibeles Fashion Week: Jesus del Pozo

It´s time!  Recaps of Cibeles Fashion Week have officially begun.  Jesús del Pozo opened up fashion week this year in Madrid and he used a lot of muted gem tones and soft fabrics, and HATS, which was fun.  See images below.

Love this color and the heels

Lace is still trending for fall!

I love this color and fabric…it´s very original and the sleeves are great.
