Summer Essentials: The White Bikini

Even though the weather isn´t at summer temps, and it´s barely sunny at all here in Madrid, I am thinking about my upcoming summer, especially my month in Italy on the beach, and I know I am going to need a lot of summer essentials. When I am thinking of summer beach essentials…beach hats, check, cover ups check, shorts check, tops check, sundresses check, cute wedges and gladiator sandals check…swimsuits…you can never have enough!

I  recently bought a new bikini at Lefties earlier this spring for my Canary Islands trip, but I absolutely cannot resist a fabulous white bikini!  White is amazing because no matter how pale you are, a stark white bikini will always be whiter than you, therefore making you seem tan and glowy by default.   I saw this one in H&M and knew it was made for me.

The cool thing, the embellished charm on the top is actually an Italian symbol to protect against the ¨evil eye¨(an ancient Italian legend about evil in your lives).  So of course why not have this symbol with me during my month on the  beach in Italy? I consider it fate.

Anyway here is the bikini pictured below!

Beyonce ¨ Mrs. Carter¨for H&M

After seeing the fabulous ¨Mrs. Carter¨tour in Milan last weekend (recap to come shortly!)  I knew I had to post on her fabulous and very reasonably priced swimwear line for H&M.

The suits are cute, sexy and fun and stay within H&M´s normal price range, which I think is great!  The images are gorgeous, and they show young women what real curves are allllll about-no stick figure skinny models here!

Her billboards are plastered throughout Europe so I think the line has been highly advertised-better stop in and grab your suit before they sell out!

Island Fashion

I am back in Madrid after a 10 day holiday in the Greek Islands, and all I can say is WOW.  I have never seen such breaktaking natural beauty! I loved every second of Greece, the sights, the food, the locals were funny, quirky and friendly…it´s been a vacation I´ll never forget, that´s for sure.  Now to add to the local breathtaking beauty, I´ve added a few fabulous outfits I floated around in during my vacay.  Today marks the end of August and once September starts…fall fashion it is!  So enjoy these last few beach pic and then let´s dive  right into to fall fashion!

Whimsical in White

I know I said I wouldn´t shop more this summer…well…I lied.  I realized that come August I am going to Greece, and my dreams of strolling around the beach and little Greek fishing villages wearing all white linen every day all day for 10 straight days were not coming true unless I began to pump up the white in my wardrobe.

SO I bought two white little numbers, one from Lefties and one from H & M.   They super cute and very much in style and I can´t wait to sport them in Crete this summer.

See below!

This first dress is from Lefties and as you can see it´s got a cute little waistline and is made of a lace/crochet fabric with a cottton lining underneath.  The dress fits like a glove and looks adorable.  I can´t wait to throw it on with some wedges and dance off into the Greek sunset!

This H&M dress is crocheted at the top with a drawstring waist.  It´s slightly more casual-I could wear it as a beach cover up with flip flops or cute flat sandals.

There´s nothing better than being tan and wearing white all summer long.  Punto.

Summer Trend: Crochet or Lace Shorts

A new summer trend I am loving is the crochet or lace shorts look.  I bought a pair of black ones at H&M, which I found an image of online (from blog Ivanna´s Closet).  I totally agree with Ivanna-crochet shorts might possibly be my favorite summer garment this year!

Howeer, the H&M ones do run a bit short, so if you want something a bit longer, you could try Zara, which has a couple pairs of slighty longer ones.

My only tip when wearing crochet or lace shorts is to be careful with what you pair them with…SOMETIMES, depending on the garment, the white ones especially, tend to look a bit like pajamas.  So make sure to pair them with something tailored and shoes other than flip flops so it doens´t look as if you´ve just rolled out of bed!

Beach Fashion: Bags

This will be the first in a series about what to wear to everyone’s favorite vacation destination-THE BEACH!  This was brought on by my recent trip to the Canary Islands, and today´s installment will feature beach bags.

My all time favorite style of beach bag is the straw tote.  I prefer it to fabric and plastic because fabric gets dirty from the sand and plastic seems a little cheap looking and can often be uncomfortable to carry.

The best part about the straw beach bag is that it´s very cheap-you can buy one per summer and toss it and get a new one the next year.

This year I purchased a great one from Lefties at 14 euros .  The other two shown in the pic are both from H and M.  Blanco, Oysho, and DayaDay are also great places to get the perfect straw beach bag.

Spring Shopping: Pink Blazer

We all know spring is about color this season, so here it is-the absolute most colorful blazer I could possibly find.  If this doesn´t scream spring…I don´t know what does! The best part…it was only 20 euros from H&M.  They also have the blazer in black and cobalt blue.   Shoutout to mi amiga  Claire for spotting it!

The blazer…I will say, on the rack, doesn´t photograph exceptionally well but as you can see below, it looks amazing on Claire, who is modeling it!

Marni for H&M this Spring…YES!

H&M is on fire this year with designs by Versace… and now one of my favorite designers, Marni will be creating a collection in spring for H&M!!!! This calls for a celebration!

I went to H&M a few days ago to check out the Versace.  True to the pictures I posted, it´s bright, shiny and fabulous, however just too loud for my particular style. I am not sure the typical H&M shopper can pull off these intense looks…they look amazing on models on the runway but…in real life…who knows.

On the other hand, I can absolutely see myself wearing Marni any day of the week so I am extremely excited to see what they will create.

The collection will hit 260 shops worldwide on March 8, 2012 (calendar marked!)

The collection for H&M has will stay true to Marni´s trademark tribal prints while mixing them with graphics to create a sporty and chic look that is both representative of H&M AND Marni.  Another spoiler…bright colors will be used, so be ready for a loud and colorful spring.  Just about 3 months to wait!

YOU can be ´The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo´

Well…sort of!  If you have read the Millenium Trilogy series, you know that Lisbeth Sander, resident bad ass of the books.  She´s one tough young lady, and apparently, if you want to be like her…you can now wear her clothes!

Trish Summerville (the movie´s costume designer) has created a fashion line for H&M inspired by Sander´s black, gothic, tough girl wardrobe.  The line is set to launch Dec. 14 in select H&M stores, just a few days before the opening of the American version of the movie.  I would imagine the line will feature a lot of black, leather, studs, these type of things.  It sounds cool!  Check out a few sneak peeks below:

Concurso H & M and Harper´s Bazaar

H & M is working with Harper´s Bazaar to find the ´Most Elegant Blogger in Spain´.  That´s obviously me!!!! So I need to post me, wearing a look with one trend purchased from the H & M fall line.

If I win, I will be featured in the magazine and get to create a look for H & M.   Before I can show my look, of course I must add my personal definition of elegance.

ELEGANCE: To me, being elegant is being classy and sexy.  You want to show a little skin, but not too much.  Mystery is elegance.  Elegance is pairing expensive with inexpensive, new with old, day with night, making just the right combinations.  See below for my visual interpretation.

I am wearing a beige dress from H & M (vestido beige de H & M).  The dress is great because it incoporates zippers, which I feel is a look right now, and it´s covering at the top but short to show a little leg. I paired the dress with a blue Cole Haan purse, Jimmy Choo snakeskin shoes, bracelets from Blanco, a vintage ring from my grandmother, Dior Sunglasses and blue nail polish from Kiko.

BREAK IT DOWN:

Dress: H&M, Front and Back

Shoes: Jimmy Choo

Bag: Cole Haan

Bracelets: Blanco

Ring: Vintage, from my grandmother

Sunglasses: Dior

And of course, nothing completes a ´Most Elegant Blogger from España´ look, than a glass of champagne. Cheers!
