Fitting Room 2013

Fitting Room 2013

This year Fitting Room returns to Madrid for it´s 9th edition on March 9th.  As always, it will be at the Petit Palace on Calle Jorge Juan 17 in Barrio Salamanca.   I am pretty bummed I won´t be able to attend as I have for the last 2 years, because I will be in Miami.  I guess I can´t complain!

Like past year, each room will feature a different designer showcasing their items which you can photograph, purchase, etc.

This year here are some of the participating vendors/designers are coming from as far as Mexico, Columbia, Singapore and Ukraine.  See list below:

Hunna, elSuso, Alilovesyou, L’imperatrice, Lamauri, Les Tulipes, Lolita Butterfly, Lupe Giraldo, Mamenchica, Manuel & Ariana, Pecadille, Selected Homme, Vila Clothes, Chic ’n’ Bossa, Clavenié, Ksenia Schnaider, Bikini by Theresa Benavides, Proyectokwarzo, L’entoilage.

Highlights: Fitting Room Madrid

Fitting Room is a yearly event which includes fashion, art, photography and more.  It consists of independent designers coming together in the Petit Palace Art Gallery Boutique hotel and showcasing some of their products, art, etc.  Last year, I went and it was a very special day.  This year, things were slightly less extravagant but it was still a great time enjoyed with friends.

I will say this year, the I was less impressed with the vendors that came, in general.  Only two really caught my eye-and they were Le Monvintage, which is one of my favorite independent jewelry designers, and the other is actually a shoe brand, based in London called Shoe Embassy.

I think the economic crisis here in Spain added to Fitting Room being a bit less exciting this year.  In any case, let´s take a look at what I did enjoy!

We´ll start with Le Monvintage.  They had their jewelry beautifully merchandised, as usual.

I especially loved their bracelets this time around, which you can see a couple below.

This last pic wasn´t the best but you get the idea…to order or see more, please visit the Le Monvintage Website.

The other vendor that impressed was a new one to Fitting Room this year, Shoe Embassy.  When I heard it was London based, it made sense immediately because the shoes have a very masculine, oxford look to them…I can´t really describe it but it just screams London to me, which is totally fabulous.  The shoes are basically a collection of very soft and high quality leather, in mainly lace up oxfords, (however they do have some ballerina flats, books, some heeled shoes, etc) and they have both mens and womens shoes.    The had some great colors too, some brights, and some with a very cool, faded look.

For some reason I did not take any pictures of the room, I am not sure why, I think because they performed this theatre skit which was actually quite funny and I got sidetracked.  In any case I have taken a few pictures from their facebook site so you can get an idea of the style.

Another reason I liked this place was because the shoes were quality and for a good price.  Most of the shoes were between 80 and 100 euros, which, for a good pair of leather shoes is next to nothing.

For more information visit the Shoe Embassy Website.  Their Spain contact is Marta Mayo and she can be reached at shoeembassyspain@gmail.com, if you would like to order or find out where they are sold in Spain.

Finally, I took my traditional pic outside of the Fitting Room sign, wearing my new and fabulous pink blazer, new lefties shirt and my trusty Cole Haan bag.

Fitting Room FABULOUS: Le Moulin Joly

Le Moulin Joly was the first room I entered into and I immediately loved it.  All the jewelry pieces featured contained some kind of clock or timepiece, which I thought was very original. The presentation was extremely well done, I felt like I was in another time period or antique shop or something!

Love all of these!  To view more please check out the website:

Some fun highlights:

Snakeskin clutch

Some lingerie…I´m a big fan of the garters!

This jean jacket is super cool because you can actually unzip it and turn it into pants! See below for pants pic.

Jacket turned pants! Amazing!

So this is a shoulder pad cap thing…even though it may not be something I would actually wear, I love the originality of it! It brings me straight me to Janet Jackson, Rhythm Nation years!

Bondage barbie, offical mascot! Love it!

Fitting Room FABULOUS: Neanide

Maybe it´s the beautiful language, the amazing country itself, the delectable food, my Italian heritage, my kind and loving family in Bergamo, the gorgeous men…but I just LOVE Italy, anything Italian, bring it! So clearly when I walked into Fitting Room and heard the Neanide staff speaking in Italian, my heart melted, not to mention the beautiful jewelry that Neanide makes…BELLA!

Fitting Room FABULOUS: Trip Chic Vespa

I think we all know that one amazing thing about  living in Europe is how hot dudes race around scooters all the time.  I pretty much have daydreamed my whole life (well, after I started watching Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen movies) about racing around on the  back of my boyfriends vintage vespa, hair blowing in the wind, Hilary Duff music playing in the background…

ANYWAY this dream can come true with Trip Chic Vespa! (Just throwing it out there, my dream totally already came true, though my hot spanish love god does not own a vespa, but actually a Japenese imitation scooter, close enough)

Trip Chic Vespa will rent a vespa to you for 1-7 days.  Most of their vespas are vintage, which is even cooler. You can choose the one you want, depending on availability of course.  What are perfect way to enjoy a spring day! You can also buy super cute helmet covers, if you´ve already got your own moto. Check their website for more info, or search their name on facebook to ´like´their page.

Here you see one of the available vintages vespas for rent as well as two helment covers.  And of course modeling we have ageless beauties Lori and Norma.

Some cute helmet covers!

Fitting Room FABULOUS: FashioNYst

NYST caught me eye at Fitting Room because it basically combines two aspects of my life…fashion in New York City and fashion in Madrid!  The process begins with taking design students or relatively unknown/ new designers in NYC.  These designers create original bags and accessories, and then they are sold in NYC and Madrid.  I think its truly fabulous for three main reasons (among others!):

1. It lets people in Spain have access to otherwise unaccessible fashion and designs straight from New York City-the world´s top fashion capital.

2.  It gives young designers in NYC the chance to make and sell their merchandise, especially abroad.

3. Price points are really reasonable for quality items.

What´s not to love?!  If you want to buy OR if you are interested in selling your items with NYST….see below

From Spain: info@nyst.es

FUN FACT: What really got me was the  names of the bags!  They are all named after streets in NYC…Mulberry, Bayard, Hester…tear of nostalgia slips down my cheek…!!!!
