Mercedes Benz Fashion Week NEW YORK CITY Sample Platter

The fashion week of all fashion weeks….New York City´s!!!!  Since I left New York, fashion week has been moved from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center.  I am not sure exactly how it is over at Lincoln Center but I remember loving it at Bryant Park.  During my lunch hour I would stroll through hoping to catch a peak at a celeb…I definitely saw several…the first time I saw Anna Wintour was in Bryant Park for Fashion Week and her glamorous, sunglassed image has stayed with me ever since!

This year at fashion week NYC, I have to say…I was left feeling…a little disappointed?  I viewed several of the collections and in general, was left mildly unimpressed.  The clothes were nice but they just didn´t WOW me.  This year I really preferred Paris and Madrid´s Fashion Weeks, hands down.

However, there were some designers and some looks I enjoyed.  Although several of the collections didn´t seem too innovative to me, I did have a few looks within collections that caught my eye, as well as a few designers I thought went above and beyond.

Of course, this is only my personal opinion, many critics would disagree!

See below for my picks.

Cynthia Rowley´s collection in general was rather grunge, a lot of clothes seemed very ´car mechanic´jumpsuits, separates, quite casual, interesting fabric and color choices.  However, this particular look jumped out at me…I think it´s leather and I love the sleeves and the neckline.  I also think it´s fabulous how she paired this edgy dress with socks and sort of updated Mary Jane´s…the hair is great…this look just WORKS for me.

Diane Von Furstenberg´s collection was filled with bright and bold color options, like this red number above.  As we can see, high and decorative necklines are definitely in for fall…does this mean the return of the (adorned) turtleneck????

Jenny Packam created an entire collection of just dresses, which had sort of a femme fatale vibe, however not at all racy or overly sexy.  This is the most original design from her and I love the way she mixed fabrics.

These two looks by Tracy Reese include mixing prints and fabrics, and of course bold color choices.  I really love her styling as well, however to me it seems more spring than fall!

This look is part of Z spoke by Zac Posen, a line entirely made up of sportswear.   It has a distinct 90´s feel to and Posen explains this as ¨ America´s gone to the dark side¨ .  Love it, esp the clutch.

More to come from MBFW NYC!!!

Trend Alert: Edgy Glamour

One of the things I think about when I put together an outfit is juxtaposition.  I love the idea of mixing fabrics and textures and styles that might not really ´go´together, but work.  For example below, I have pulled together a grouping of items that I find to be old school glamour but with an urban edge as well.  The best way to do this is look for items that seem to have a classic glamorous look, like a little black dresss, diamonds, pearls, gold and then add some leopard, some leather, some studds, some ribbon, maybe some sequins or feathers. My absolute favorite is the classy black clutch…with the skull snap on top.  (glamour-classic black clutch, edgy-skull, in case you are still in fashion 101 and need extra help) I also love the two classy black dresses, the one shoulder on one and the leopard cutouts on the other really edge it out! Check out the group I pulled together below.  This type of glamour with an urban edge is really trending right now so get to shopping!
